A Wedding Proposal

It’s shoots like this one that really make me love my job. I feel incredibly privileged that I get to witness seminal moments in people’s lives . That they ask me to document it is just fantastic.

When Rav contacted me back in January I was blown away by how much thought he had put into making sure his wedding proposal to his girlfriend, Jas, was a complete surprise. He had whisked her away form London for a romantic weekend in the pretty Cotswold town of Stow-on-the-Wold and had booked them onto a creative coffee making course. I was in on it from the start. She had been told a photographer would be coming along to take some marketing shots, (she’d even signed a waiver!) On my arrival, I had to pretend that I’d never met or spoken to Rav before, which I found slightly awkward! Little did she know that half way through the session he would present her with a cup of coffee with a wedding proposal inscribed in the top! It would be fair to say she was more than a little surprised!! After she’d recomposed herself we went for a short walk around the town to take some shots of the newly engaged couple. So much fun!

A New year, A New Proposal!

What a great way to start 2020 for lucky girl, Emma! Her boyfriend, Luke, surprised her with a wedding proposal at Park Campus in early January! Luke had been planning this for a while and had first got in touch with me back in the Autumn. Park Campus is a special place for the couple as they both went to University there and it’s how they met.

I’d never met Luke before the shoot, but we agreed the spot where I should position myself - across the lake opposite a bench. The couple arrived, he got down on one knee and she said yes! We then spent a further 30 minutes walking around the park together taking some informal pictures of the pair of them celebrating their new engagement.

Wedding Celebration

Andrea and Josh were recently married and booked me to cover both their wedding and after party. The wedding itself was a small, very private affair. Just a handful of close family members had travelled to the Cotswolds to spend the special day with the happy couple.

The party was held a few weeks later in London, where they live, and was a rather more lively event. Prior to their arrival at the venue, I joined them at St Pancreas for some intimate shots. Apparently, the staircase in the pictures below is the one that featured in the Spice Girl’s video for Wannabe! We then made our way out into the train station before jumping in a taxi over to Angel.

The venue was an old scrap metal yard and was fabulously decked out. It came complete with an old tube train that had been converted into a bar. After some mingling, there were a few speeches followed by an informal buffet. Here are some of the highlights.

Will You Marry me?

This was my second shoot photographing a marriage proposal and it was even more unusual than my first! This time I hadn't even met my client, so relied on a basic description of what he would be wearing with a bit of last minute frenzied texting to make sure I was in the right position and on the right bridge, and there are a lot of bridges in Bourton-on-the-Water!! Thankfully it all came together in the end and the best part is...she said YES!!

Engagement Photos

Lyndsey and Jonathan were recently engaged and wanted a picture to put on the front of their announcement card to send to friend’s and family. I met them at Broadway Tower on a very cold and windy morning in September. The couple weren’t deterred by the blustery conditions, happily removing coats, scarves and hats! As with all my photo shoots, it was very relaxed. It lasted 30 minutes and below are some of the highlights.

Ruth and Ross

Ruth and Mike contacted me a few month’s ago as they wanted to have their wedding celebration covered by a professional photographer. They got married in London and were inviting friends and family to Cheltenham for a party to celebrate.

We met in Montpellier Gardens before moving across the road to one of the private function rooms in the Ivy. I was booked for an hour. We captured a combination of formal group shots and candid pictures of everyone in the park, with more natural photos of people mingling before sitting down to eat.

Zoe and Mike

Zoe & Mike tied the knot at Cheltenham Registry Office then I met them in Montpellier Park afterwards for 30 minutes of photos. The bandstand always proves useful when raining, and we still got some lovely shots, even with umbrellas! Below is just a small selection of images.

Ellie and Jack

Ellie and Jack booked me for two hours to photograph their intimate wedding with a small group of close family. The ceremony took place at Stroud Registry Office and the reception was held at the Painswick Hotel. They are due to have a big party next year, once the baby has arrived!

Engagement Party!

Ellie and Tom booked me for two hours to cover their engagement party at the Queen’s Hotel in Cheltenham. I’ve photographed quite a few weddings and events at the Queens and it makes a fabulous venue. When I arrived, guests were just finishing their dinner. Soon after, the party was in full swing with a game of musical chairs before the DJ started his set and people hit the dance floor. Oz Wedding Bash!

Vanessa booked me for two hours to cover her brother’s post wedding party at their parent’s house. Her brother had got married in Australia the year before and the whole family were coming together now to celebrate. Despite the rain, the bunting, flowers, cocktails and gazebos transformed the garden into a boutique glamping space. As the rain came down, more and more guests turned up. We were fortunate to get a small break from the drizzle when we took the opportunity to get some group shots and a large group shot of everyone. Apart from a few formal photos, the brief was a natural, reportage style, which is my preferred style. Below is a small selection from the one hundred and forty seven images the couple received.
